My First Reflective Essay
When I first think about research and completing a research project I immediately begin to get very anxious. I have never really had to do any major research about a topic. We did small research projects throughout high school and college, but I don’t remember going very “deep” with the topics. As I was reading our first reading for class I was very confused when reading about the standard deviation and how research is presented. This is not something I am familiar with! I am also not the most confident writer, so I will try my best during this semester!
As I think back to research projects that I have done in the past they were always related to what the teacher required me to research. I am very interested in Educational Technology, which should allow me the opportunity to explore research and the processes involved with something that I am interested in. I hope to become more confident with research during this class.
Educational Technology is something that is very popular in education at all levels at this point in our society. This should allow me to find many different resources that will help me in my research. One important thing I always look at first is the date something is published. How relevant is the information? If it was published ten years ago, then is it still something we should consider?
I would like to research the use of smart phones within education. As a sixth grade teacher I am always battling my students against the use of their cell phones. When looking through research, are there ways that I can have my students use their cell phones in the classroom in an educational way? What are the liabilities of doing something like this? How do I show my principal and superintendent that it will work? I am also interested to see how different schools use the phones. Are they all doing it in the same way?
